Welcome

COVID 19 PANDEMIC

The last few weeks have been challenging for many of us and today we woke up to a different kind of day.

Forward Thinking Therapies has been busy working with clients and community groups to ensure that we are able to continue servicing emotional health support in a positive way via video link and using other resources that do not involve personal contact.

FREE support is available for anyone struggling with these challenging times via email at [email protected], we also have a range of free resources available. We will endeavour to respond to all emails within 48 hours of receipt.

We focus on the positive aspects of emotional health, working together to enhance our wellbeing, mental health and getting the best out of everyday life. Our clients vary, individuals, couples and families.

We currently have availability for 1:1 sessions, which are arranged via zoom video link. This sessions are charged at our standard hourly rate as per our Terms & Conditions.

If you would like to book a free 30 minute introductory session to discuss how we might be able to help you, please contact us via the email above.

In addition to the above, we will be posting updates and resources regularly on our Facebook Page to support individuals and families. In the meantime, stay home, stay well and stay safe.

Forward Thinking Therapies, POCAD, Family Together and The Well Woman Network focus on supporting the positive aspects of emotional health; working together to enhance our wellbeing, mental health and getting the best out of modern day life.

We run events locally in addition to working with groups, parents, families and individuals to overcome challenge, support positive emotional health, self-care and enhance relational development.

The Forward Thinking Therapist

Young People Survey 2018

In January of 2018, Forward Thinking Therapies asked 150 young people, aged between 13 and 18, questions relating to their emotional health and wellbeing. The survey was completed anonymously via Survey Monkey. The above is a summary of what was reflected in the young peoples responses.

The results are concerning. However, the responses could be used as a guiding tool, discussion point with your young person and also enable us, as parents, to reflect on our own expectations of our young people.

The Parent Programme for

Groups, Schools & Local Organisations

The aim of this workshop is to discuss, understand, explore and learn how we can best support emotional health in our children and young people.

We discuss:

  • the current mental health challenges children and young people face.
  • how our own thoughts and behaviours influence the emotional health of children and young people.
  • young peoples expectations of adults.
  • healthy functioning and self concept.

We also explore areas of positive emotional growth and development and how we, as parents, can help our children and young people achieve this. Topics will include how we can support children and young people to:

  • understand emotions
  • learn to problem solve and find solutions.
  • cope with unexpected change.
  • learn to assess risk.
  • overcome disappointment and failure.
  • create and embrace unique individuality.
  • think rationally.
  • overcome challenge positively.
  • have the ability to self-reflect.
  • talk positively to themselves.
  • how we encourage communication, opinion and choice.
  • how we address conflict in the family.

This workshop is aimed at parents who want to learn about how they can best support their child's emotional health in our modern day world and is recommended for parents of children age 16 and under.

POCAD

Parents of Children/Young People with Anxiety, Depression & SEMH Challenges.

POCAD is a peer support group for parents/carers of children and young people who are experiencing SEMH challenges or trauma which has impacted their emotional health and everyday life.

The purpose of this group is to provide a safe space for parents to share experiences, support each other, engage in free monthly face to face meetings, emotionally offload and enable you to

feel less isolated.

There will also be an opportunity to attend presentations and workshops that specifically focus on helping you to support your child or young person at home. These are lead by professional clinicians who are highly qualified to advise and support in this field.

We have had the privilege of collaborating with some highly respected Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Research Fellows, highly skilled clinicians and specialists in this area. They are

extremely supportive of our work.

Being a parent of a child or young person with emotional challenges is mentally exhausting and with little support it can feel lonely, isolating and desperate. I hope that this group will enable parents to connect positively to support each other.

We also have a private Facebook Group which lists our meetings and other information.

We currently run groups in Earley, Reading and Bracknell with a view to expand this further.

Please contact us for details of our peer support meetings.
